“Blooming Columbine: A Miniature May Floral Study” is a 2"x2" miniature floral artwork created for the Blooming Marvelous May and Miniature May art challenges. The piece combines traditional drawing materials with digital refinement to create a bold spring-inspired floral composition centered around Columbine flowers.
The artwork began with mechanical pencil construction and layered colored pencil rendering before being refined with India ink pens and acrylic paint pen highlights. After the traditional portion was completed, the final image was digitally refined in Snapseed and Procreate to prepare it for online presentation and print production while preserving the texture and hand-crafted feel of the original miniature artwork.
The goal of this piece was to create a compact floral composition that still felt energetic and visually dense despite the limited 2"x2" format. Strong outlines, layered greenery, and decorative color contrasts helped give the artwork a stained-glass-inspired appearance while maintaining a sketchbook-style charm.
