30 Miniature Flower Studies | Miniature May Progress

This project showcases the progression of my completed Miniature May artwork, a collection of 30 miniature botanical studies arranged within a single grid. The accompanying slideshow reveals the artwork's development one square at a time, beginning with a single flower study and gradually expanding until the entire page is filled.

Each miniature was created as an individual artwork while contributing to the larger composition. The finished collection includes Columbine, Viola, Cornflower, Sunflower, Aster, Chrysanthemum, Violet, Clover, Daffodil, Carnation, Lilac, Pansy, Grape Hyacinth, Chinese Poppy, Strawberry Flower, Anemone Blanda, Cinquefoil, Asiatic Lily, Tulip, Dogwood, Dandelion, Scabiosa, Bearded Iris, Spring Whitlow-grass, Daisy, Rock Rose, Snapdragon, Bluebells, and Columbia Windflower.

One of the most interesting aspects of the project was watching the page slowly transform from mostly blank paper into a complete botanical mosaic. Each addition brought new colors, textures, and floral forms to the composition, creating a visual record of the challenge as it unfolded.

About the Project

Miniature May challenged me to create detailed artwork within a small format while maintaining variety and visual interest across the entire collection. Working at this scale encouraged careful observation and efficient mark-making, allowing each flower to retain its unique character despite the limited space available.

The finished artwork serves as both a botanical study collection and a visual diary of the challenge itself, documenting a month of creative growth one miniature flower at a time.
